Guess where I am...

I'm on a trip for work, someplace new where I've never been before (I love this kind of traveling, seeing new places and doing new things)

Here is a hint:

Any guess? No, "the beach" doesn't count!

I'm at a meeting for work and today we got to visit the host site which included a boat ride across the bay to a barrier island.

Maybe this photo will help:

Today we saw, sting rays, mullet jumping, osprey, least terns, snowy plovers, oystercatchers, predated sea turtle nests...does any of this help you?

So, where, oh where, could I possibly be?

Happy Father's Day

We spent Father's day just doing things together. We made breakfast, hung around the house, called Poppop and wished him a Happy Father's Day, went to the local annual Chinese Festival, and then went out to dinner at a local Steakhouse...(I know, surprise, surprise)

Recently...

This weekend I had to work pretty much all day on Saturday, which was a bummer because there were several different things and festivals that I had wanted to go to...but, when you have to work, you have to work. Sunday we just did things around the house and Ron prepared to build his new raised garden next to the sunroom. His foot is on the mend but he still needs to take it easy. So, I'm still relegated to grass cutting duty.

Swimming lessons have come to an end for the summer. So we'll just be having the unofficial swimming lessons by Mommy and Daddy at the Y, instead of the official ones (which by the way, I'm not all that razzed about anyway...but that is a story for another day). We're continuing gymnastics and there has been additional talk about joining our neighbor (yes, the gentleman caller) at karate which is 2 nights a week but we haven't committed to that one yet.

The BIG news is that Maddie has moved up to the next classroom. Only place to go from here is Kindergarten! She was super-super excited. She picked out a pretty dress to wear, filled her backpack with her all important Room 9 stuff. She also gets to go out on the big kids playground now during playtime *gasp* Not all of her friends moved up with her, but will by the time school starts back up.

So, how did she do? New teachers, new room, new friends? She LOVED it. When I picked her up one day, instead of running to get her stuff, she ran back out with her friends, chatted with one, who I now know to be Gabbi, and had her run over to meet me. Maddie was just soooo excited. When I dropped her off the second day, she was chattering and showing me EVERYTHING in her new classroom. I had asked her if she liked her new teachers and her new room and she said emphatically, "Yes! I love everything, and the puppets!" I think she showed me the puppets at least 3 times that morning. She even tried on a kitty puppet so I could learn how they work. *grin* I know I'm biased, but this is after all my Mommy blog...but it was adorable.

Hop scotch is a recent new favorite activity at home. Maddie doesn't quite follow all of the official rules yet (oh yes, there are rules - well at least the *cough* number of years ago I played it). She does jump on one foot but she alternates the feet so it looks like she's doing a slow motion run *chuckle* After the meltdown to humble all meltdowns two weeks ago, where she lost her bike riding, tv (no Dora, no, Kai Lan, no Diego!), and game privileges for 10 sleeps!!!! She's been behaving quite well. But Ron and I have come to the realization that she still *needs* to take a nap, when she doesn't is when she acts up. I know, you're impressed, it only took the two of us to figure that one out ;)

She dug through her closet again and picked out this lovely ensemble on Sunday. Shorts or dresses are the big thing right now. But if you ask her what she wants to wear today, she will ALWAYS say a dress. So, Mommy is just going with it and got a bunch of lovely summer dresses for her to pick from.

That is, unless she wants to pretend that she's Daddy and puts on his jeans. Can you find her in there?

Weekend wanderings

Over the past two weekends we've been pretty low key. We didn't make a mad dash down the shore like everyone else in the tri-state area. We did things close to home, but fun none-the-less...

We visited Nana in Maryland over Memorial Day Weekend where we played outside, and swung in the hammock.

While Nana and I were sitting in the kitchen talking I peered outside and saw Ron standing by a tree looking way up high with no Maddie in sight...this is when I headed for the door and saw...

Yes, the young one has taken to climbing trees with Daddy (who is 6'6" - to give you an idea of how high she is!)

We also enjoyed some fun sprinkler time in the yard with the neighborhood kids

On multiple days (as you will note the change in bathing suit - Thanks Molly!) We also took some time to nurture the artistic side of our daughter who kept asking over and over and over if she could paint and paint she did...watercolor and finger paints created some beautiful pieces that she has already named and identified the recipients of the different works.

This past weekend we went to "A Day on the Farm" at a local creamery that had lots of fun stuff from hay rides, to ponies, crafts, face painting, cows, live music all day, sheep, watermelon seed spitting contest (really - Maddie made 5 feet!), and more! Thanks Rae for the heads up on this one - good times had

The best part were the fresh strawberries and of course the ice cream!

Maddie has devoured a huge number of strawberries this past week. They're in season here and very yummy =) You'd think she'd be all about the ice cream, but no, she did have some - chocolate thank you very much - but she ate LOTS of strawberries as well.
