Xin Nian Kuai Le - Happy New Year

Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It is sometimes called the Lunar New Year, especially by people outside China. It is an important holiday in East Asia. The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first lunar month in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; this day is called Lantern Festival .

February 7, 2008 begins the Year of the Rat! We decorated the house, Maddie and her friends in school all received traditional hong bao (red envelopes with "money") and we dined on longevity noodles! (Sorry, no pictures!)

Hi Kim,
Does Maddie's daycare do anything for the CNY?

Hiya Stephe,

Yes, they did a week-long theme for CNY. Of course, this was with some assistance from me. I gave them 5 books on China and CNY that was age appropriate. Suggested craft ideas and I gave them red envelopes to give to the kids. They decorated the room with lanterns and a CNY couplet around the door.

Awesome, I'm so happy that they celebrated CNY. I'm on a group where they are having issues where the daycare doesn't celebrate it. (I mean they're really flipping out) I told them to pick their battles and do it themselves, ie, come in like a show & tell or provide daycare with books and crafts. I tell you, before I decided to adopt, I never knew about CNY. I think it's great that you provided the Daycare with this stuff. I will too. You're a girl after my own heart! :)
